Stuart and I took our first short-term rental live in 2017 – a rent-to-rent, back when nobody in Dundee was really doing this yet. Within a year we had five, and it was working.

We started getting invited to speak at property networking events, and people kept coming up afterwards asking if we’d manage their place too. That’s really how Clark Anderson Properties started – not a plan we sat down and wrote, but something we grew into because people asked us to.

As the company took shape, we phased out the rent-to-rents and put everything back into building the management side properly. We managed across Scotland, pulled back to focus on our own patch when licensing came in for areas like Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Glasgow, and became genuine experts in Tayside, Angus, and Fife because of it. Now that licensing has settled, we’re expanding across Scotland again.

We stay close to the best tools and technology in the industry, but never at the cost of the human side of things. A great stay, or a well looked-after property, still comes down to people paying attention.

Recently we started asking how we could offer that same standard of service outside Scotland, without the barriers that put some owners off – long contracts, high commissions, a lack of transparency. That question became Tripster: a flat-fee alternative for owners who want to stay a bit more involved in their property. It’s not for everyone, if you want it fully hands-off, Clark Anderson’s management service is still the way to go, but for the right owner, it’s a great option.
